Hello again- I’ve been asked to send a email to make sure everyone had the chance to sign up to go can the beans that bro Andrus donated to the Stake. We were assigned to go on Thursday (May 13th) from 3:00-6:00 NV time. We need at least 15 people from our ward and there will be 15 from Bunkerville 1st Ward too. Let me know if you didn’t get a chance to sign up and want to go. We still have some slots open. Also- if you want to carpool up we will meet at the church at 2:00 so we can share rides. For those who are going could you please RSVP and let me know if you are going up on your own or if you want to share rides? Thanks and Thanks for your help

"Let's Get Prepared"

CLOTHES WASHING KIT
5-gallon bucket with lid (cut hole in middle of lid for plunger handle to fit through)
Toilet plunger (brand-new, clean)
Store in bucket:
Liquid laundry detergent
Stain remover/stain stick
Vinegar (add 1/2 cup to rinse water) helps remove soap
Rope (for clothes line)
Clothes pins

To Use:
Empty contents of bucket.
Place water, small amount of detergent, and clothes in bucket.
Move plunger up and down for a few minutes or until clothes are clean.
Remove soapy clothes and ring them out.
Dump out soapy water (on your garden or lawn.)
Place soapy clothes in bucket and fill with clear, clean water.
Add 1/2 cup vinegar to rinse water.
Move plunger up and down to rinse clothing.
Wring out clothes and hang to dry.
Conserve water - use rinse water for next load of laundry.

NOTE: You could store two 5-gallon buckets, stack one inside of the other. Use one bucket for the soapy water and the other for the rinse water. You may be able to wash and rinse a couple of batches of clothes without changing the soapy water depending on how dirty the clothes are.
Just thought I’d give you all an update. Nicole Halvorsen had her baby girl late last night and as far as I’ve heard it sounds like everything’s good. She weighed about 5lbs 8 oz. She’s still in the ICU so they can watch, get her eating and make sure all’s well with her lungs. Congratulations to the Halvorsen’s. We’ll let you know when they come home.

Laurie Andrus and her twins are coming home today (Saturday). It sounds like things are going well for them too. Laurie may need some help for the next few days. We’ll send around a sign up tomorrow. Call if you don’t

see it and want to help.

We’ll also be sending around sign-ups to help out in the ward garden. We need to get some weeding done now while the weeds are small. When you go, make sure to work on the garden with the wooden stakes saying

who planted the row and what’s planted there. Other families have planted crops too. We actually are only responsible for the tomato rows but I’m sure everyone would appreciate the a little help on their rows too. We’ve got a few cherry tomatos ripe already.

Thanks for all your help. Have a great Saturday and we’ll see you tomorrow.

If anyone is interested, I just got an email about a great deal on 5 gallon buckets. They are heavy duty, black, and have the lids with gaskets for long term storage for $3.99 per bucket. If you need them and want to order some let me know by Sunday.

Thanks

Janet

Hi everyone- Here’s this week news updates

·Bro Schaefermeyer’s mother has fallen and broken her leg. She went for surgery yesterday and I haven’t heard yet how things went. We’ll let you know Sunday.

·Saturday will be the Stake Humanitarian Day. It goes from 9-2 at the Stake Center. They need help putting together Hygiene Hits, Newborn Kits, and tying quilts. There will be yummy food and a children’s class. Come anytime. The kits usually are finished pretty fast so you’ll want to be early for that. It’s really a fun morning so come and enjoy!

·Don’t miss the case lot sale at Smith’s. There’s some fairly good deals.

·Kerin will be completing the food orders this Sunday for those who want to place an order

***We NEED EVERYONE to ponder long and hard then email me back or write down and place in the boxes at church on Sunday any little or big things you do to save money. We want to compile a list of “Money Saving Tips” to share with everyone. Even if you don’t need any tips yourself, your ideas may be what can help the rest of us through these hard times. Things you used to do, things your mother or aunt did, things you read that the pioneers or people during the depression did would work too- or even things you’ve always wanted to try but haven’t done yet might help too. Send them as soon as you can and THANKS!!!

*** Also we need everyone to accept the “Budget Meal Challenge”. As you cook from now till our activity on Tuesday, figure up the cost of each meal- either per person or for the whole meal. We would like to compile a 30 day calendar of healthy budget menu’s that cost $1-$2 dollars for a breakfast for the whole family, $2-$3 dollars for lunch, and $3-$5 dollars for a whole dinner. That would give us meals costing $50-$70 dollars a week with a little left over for snacks or special occasions. Email the menus along with any special recipes or bring them with you to the activity Tuesday night. Then we’ll decide on a day to get back together to share the calendar and do some hands on “How-to’s”. This could be an amazing event if everyone participates. Together we can do anything! Call if you have any questions.

Thanks again!!! See you Saturday

PS- Today would be a great day to call and check on the Sisters you visit to see how they’re doing.

PPS- If you need a family activity there are some weeds in the ward garden that are wanting to be pulled.

You’re wonderful- Have a great rest of the day!

We have a busy week.

Tuesday- 6:30 at the Whipple Chapel “Women at the Well” A musical production by the Mesquite 1st Ward for all RS sisters and Young Women. Come in Sunday dress and refreshments will be served. Remember to call the sisters you visit and bring them or other neighbors and friends. This is a great opportunity to do some missionary service or a great chance to get to know your sisters better.

Thursday- The BLOCK PARTY! It’s for anyone within the ward boundaries or anyone you’d like to fellowship. It starts at 5:30. People signed up for food assignments Sunday. If you didn’t get a chance to sign up call Gary Erickson (346-1638). If you can’t bring something- come anyway but make sure you bring someone with you! (or if everyone you know will already be there come get to know some new neighbors)

All Week- We’ll have a quilt on at Janell’s house or Janet Mikkelsen’s house. Come anytime and spend as long as you like. Bring your kids or a friend. We need to get 3 more quilts done by April 10th- for the Stake Humanitarian Aid project.

o Next Tuesday (March 30th) Come to our Relief Society Birthday Party. Wear your avorite hat if you have one and come for a fun evening together. Dinner will be served and yes, we’ll have a nursery if you need one. And again- here’s a great opportunity to bring someone with you that may not come otherwise. We’d love to have everyone there.

Thanks for all you do. We’ll see you sometime this week. Have a great one and call if you need some help!

Dear Sisters, We couldn’t get the Ward garden planted Tuesday so we will be planting this Saturday morning at 9:00. The Relief Society has been assigned to plant two rows of tomatoes. We can use all the help we can get. If you have a little hand shovel please bring it. You can bring the family too. Sometime during the day the High Priests will plant squash, cucumbers, and carrots, the Elders will plant potatoes, YM- onions, YW- peppers and beets, and the Primary- beans and ?. It should be a fun day. See you there!

We are so excited about our RS Birthday Celebration. We are doing a service each week until our celebration on March 30th. This week we will be going to JL Bowler Elementary to help put together some books. We’ll meet at the school Tues March 2nd at 9:30. We will also have a quilt on at the church at the same time. For those with preschoolers that want to help, the sisters at the church will babysit while you’re working. Then everyone can meet back at the church to help finish up the quilt. Please let Sister Evon Kelly (evonkelly8@aol.com) know if you’ll be leaving children so we can be ready for them. Check the blog (bv2ndwardrs.blogspot.com ) for weekly activity updates or watch for further emails.
Thanks for all you do

Dear Sisters,
We handed out a survey last month that would really help us as we plan activities for the rest of the year. We only got a few back so we were wondering if we could beg a favor. I have given surveys to the district leaders to give to each of the visiting teaching pairs in their districts. They will- if they haven’t already, give them to you and we would really appreciate if you could take them to the sisters you visit, help them fill them out and then make sure we get them back. If you have already gone this month then if you could just make sure they get them and follow up on your next visit that would be great too. We know this can make the activities we plan a lot more fun and helpful at the same time. We’re looking forward to a great year.
Thanks for your help
Janet

Thursday, February 4, 2010

Saturday Morning we’re going to throw on as many quilts as we can get done from 9:00-1:00 at the church. Come down when you can and stay as long as you can. Feel free to bring your kids if you need to. They can play under the quilts or they can help too. See you there!

Sisters,
The stake has told us about a group from St George taking supplies to Haiti. They need new or used quilts or blankets twin sized or smaller. The blankets can be taken to the Stake Center this Friday, Feb 5th , from 4-8 PM. Sis Olsen will take them to St George Saturday morning. The plane will fly out to Haiti Feb 11th . You can also bring donations to any of the presidency by Friday at 4 and we’ll take them over.
Sister Olsen has also been in touch with the Humanitarian Aid Center in SLC asking what we need to do for the Stake project in April. The church is almost out of quilts. They need Full and Twin quilts. These have to be new, tied no more than 4 inches apart, twin- 72 x 90, full- 90 x 90. We will organize a couple days to work on them together and you can quilt together on your own. She asked that they be turned in as we finish them because the need is so great. Call if you have questions or ideas.
Thanks

Book Club

Our first meeting will be this Wednesday Feb. 3rd @ 6pm, at Tara Faughts Home.
Please bring your favorite book. If you have any questions contact Tara.

They're looking for more donations for Haiti & Humanitarian Aide - these can be made on the LDS.org web-site, or you can pay with a tithing slip.

For those who weren’t at church Sunday, Amy Felix’s mom, Bishops Mother-in-law, passed away Saturday morning. Some of you expressed a desire to go to the funeral. A viewing will be held at the Mortuary (300 West and Center Street) on Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 and again of Friday morning before the funeral at the Mortuary. The Funeral will be Friday at 12:00 at the Cedar 9th Ward which is on 900 West across from the South side of the SUU Football Stadium. If you want to go up but want to go up with someone else give me a call and we can arrange something. My numbers are: Home 346-5956 Cell 435-229-1368.
Remember them in your prayers and to give Amy a hug and let her know you love her. (I’m sorry- does that sound a little motherly? It’s what I needed to hear so I guess everyone else needs it too)
Love to you all
Janet

Dear Sisters,
Here’s just a few things for you to think about before Sunday.
· On April 10th the Stake will be doing the annual Humanitarian Aid Project. Anyone who wants to donate can do that by filling out a Tithing/donation slip. On the “Other” line you just write in Stake RS Project.

· Are there any sisters who will make quilt tops to donate for that day. Sis. Olsen has some donated fabric that can be used to make them if anyone is interested.

· Would anyone like to participate in a class on making quilt tops given by Sis Margaret Judkins. This class would be held once a month and would last about 6 months.

· Janell has a bunch of chicken she and her daughters are going to bottle. If anyone would like to learn how she will let us know when she’s going to bottle and you can go over and learn.

· We would like to have an activity in February on gardening- what to plant, how to plant and then organize to help each other plant either in the community garden or in your back yard. Anyone interested? Let us know.

· Call Tara at 346-5131 if you are interested in joining a literacy circle (book club?).

· Don’t forget your surveys. If you lost it I can send you a new one by e-mail or we’ll have more Sunday.

We need to know who would be interested in planting fruit trees or bushes this spring. January and February are the best times for planting trees. We’ll send around sign-ups if there’s any interest. E-mail me back or you could comment on the blog which would be even better,
I think that’s it for now

See you Sunday!

Visiting Teaching Night

I usually don't post my thoughts, but this I had to share! For those of you who missed last night, you really missed out. Food was good, the entertainment was funny, and the message was inspiring. Yes, it could be the kind that makes you feel guilty about your way of Visiting Teaching. I think we all saw ourselves last night! Thank You Janet and the Relief Society Presidency! It was a great night. I am looking forward to the New Year and Visiting Teaching! I hope I can be the sister with the high heels.

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

Good Morning Sisters- Just wanted to remind everyone about the Visiting Teaching Workshop tomorrow (Thursday Jan 14). It starts at 6:00. We will have a light dinner and lots of fun. Remember to bring your calendar and your companion with you. Sisters in the skit remember to come a few minutes early to practice.

Also remember this Saturday at 7:00 will be the adult session before Stake Conference. It’s always the best part of the conference. Conference will be Sunday at 10:00 at the Stake center.

John Hall is home and ready for visitors.

One more thing. Please keep Amy and the Bishop in your prayers. They are up with her Mom now and things are not good.

Thanks for all the wonderful acts of service you do. Every day I am amazed and feel so blessed to be able to live here where the gospel is so strong. See you tomorrow

Janet

Dear Sisters,
I don’t have a list, so I can’t thank anyone specifically but thanks to all who helped with the funerals this week and last week. Between the two weeks we’ve had over 40 sisters help. The families have been so appreciative. Relatives who haven’t seen each other for awhile have been able to visit and catch up and help each other heal. It is so wonderful to be able to ask and have so many willing hands to help. You are all wonderful whether you had a chance to help this time or not. All the dishes with names on them are in a closet in the RS Room. No name pans are still in the kitchen. A Black coat left last Sunday is in the closet too.
Just a reminder- Please remember to fill out your surveys and turn them in tomorrow. You can hand them to us or just stick them in the binders as they go around. If you need another copy there is one attached here that you can print off and bring tomorrow.
Also remember the Visiting Teaching Workshop on Thursday at 6:00. (We had to change it from Tuesday).
Have a wonderful evening and we’ll see you at church tomorrow.
Thanks again
Janet
